Eintracht Frankfurt thrash FC Koln

Frankfurt record a 6-2 victory over FC Koln in the Bundesliga.

Four first-half goals have led Eintracht Frankfurt to a 6-2 victory over Koln at Commerzbank Arena.

It took the hosts just four minutes to get off the mark when last season's Bundesliga top scorer Alexander Meier headed Aleksandar Ignjovski's cross past Timo Horn.

Frankfurt, who scored four in their last game against Stuttgart, doubled their lead after just 15 minutes thanks to Luc Castaignos's cool finish after the striker had been played through by Marco Russ as the home side counter-attacked.

Things got even worse for Koln eight minutes later when Meier volleyed home Haris Seferovic's cross to put the game beyond doubt just a quarter of the way through the match and leave the visitors shell-shocked.

The away side thought that they had found themselves a lifeline when Anthony Modeste powerfully headed home Simon Zoller's cross to reduce the deficit as the first-half goalfest continued.

However, Castaignos joined Meier on a brace just 90 seconds later following another fast break from the hosts by tucking home Makoto Hasebe's through-ball to restore the three-goal advantage.

In the second half, Frankfurt found it more difficult to break through the Koln defence, but were still able to extend their lead in the 73rd minute. Castaignos's pass found Seferovic who directed the ball into the bottom left corner.

Dominique Heintz pulled a goal back eight minutes later when he headed into the roof of the net from a corner.

The scoring was complete for Frankfurt in the 87th minute, when Meier added his second by heading in from Johannes Flum's cross.
