Hertha Berlin claim late draw at Eintracht Frankfurt

Hertha Berlin climb up into the Bundesliga's European qualification places following their 1-1 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

Hertha Berlin have climbed up into the Bundesliga's European qualification places following Sunday's 1-1 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The hosts were quickest off the starting blocks as a free kick in the sixth minute fell to Alexander Meier, who rose highest and powered a header yards wide of goal.

Hertha countered through Vedad Ibisevic, whose foray into the six-yard box was followed up by a precise shot that Lukas Hradecky palmed away skilfully, before the same player headed against the crossbar from the resulting corner.

The deadlock would be broken in the 22nd minute through Meier, who opened the scoring for Frankfurt thanks to a drive into the net from Marco Russ's headed flick-on.

Several more chances came the way of both teams in the first half, most notably through Marc Stendera rattling the woodwork on 42 minutes, and the hosts hung on for the half-time lead.

The second half saw less attacking action than the first, though Luc Castaignos was unlucky to volley just over the bar for Frankfurt in the 77th minute.

He would come to rue that miss because, with just eight minutes left in the game, Vladimir Darida rounded off his individual effort with a clinical strike from inside the box past Hradecky to bring the visitors level.

Armin Veh's side could not find a late winner, and so the points were shared between both sides at the final whistle, with Frankfurt climbing to 10th in the table and Hertha going up to sixth.
