Fabio Capello says that the Football Association interfered too much in his work with the English national team, prompting his decision to leave.

Former England manager Fabio Capello has accused the Football Association of "interference" during his time with the Three Lions.

The former Real Madrid boss, who has been officially confirmed as the new manager of the Russia national side on a two-year deal, left his post with England in February following the FA's decision to strip the captaincy from John Terry amid racism claims.

"I was really angry with the FA interference in my work," said Capello. "I could not bear it. I resigned and wanted to retire completely but the desire to win a place in the World Cup finals with a national side remained.

"It made me change my mind and accept the Russian Football Union proposal. It is my main goal and I want to make it happen."

Capello will take charge of his first clash at the helm of the Russian team with a friendly against the Ivory Coast next month.
