New Russia coach Fabio Capello believes that his side face a tough qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup.
The former England boss was confirmed as Russia's new chief on Monday afternoon following a lengthy negotiation process.
Looking ahead to his new side's upcoming matches, Capello has admitted that he cannot wait to get started.
"I had reached a decision with the Russian FA last Friday, but there were several political factors which delayed the announcement, when several parties preferred a Russian coach instead," Capello told reporters.
"I'm glad that the president has opted for my project though. Qualification to the World Cup will be tough given the opponents in our group, but I feel I can contribute many things.
"There is plenty to be done."
Russia have been drawn alongside Portugal, Israel, Northern Ireland, Azerbaijan and Luxembourg.
