Paul Ince rejects claims made by Sol Campbell

Paul Ince insists that Sol Campbell is wrong in claiming that he could have been England captain for 10 years.

Paul Ince has rejected Sol Campbell's claim that he would have been England captain for 10 years had he been white.

Former Manchester United midfielder Ince, who became the first black player to captain England in 1993, insists that race was never an issue during his time dealing with the FA.

"Sol has every right to his view and we all have opinions, but in my experience I just didn't see it," Ince told the Daily Mail. "I was an England player, an England captain, I didn't think about it.

"I didn't deal with the FA often enough, but there was never any issue over my skin colour with my teammates or people I came across within the organisation.

"Sol's a clever, articulate man and he's a friend of mine but he wouldn't have been England captain for 10 years - nobody is."

Campbell captained England three times in 73 appearances.
