Ronald Koeman jokes he could be England manager by 2022 Qatar World Cup

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman jokes that he could be England manager when the 2022 Qatar World Cup takes place.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has claimed that he could be in charge of the England team by the time the 2022 Qatar World Cup rolls around.

The Dutchman made the light-hearted comment when asked to give his thoughts about the prospect of the tournament being held in November and December.

The recommendation has been made by a FIFA task force due to the extreme high temperatures in the United Arab Emirates during the summer months.

Despite the Premier League and European leagues being affected by the likely outcome, Koeman has claimed that the tournament is too far away to worry about it.

"It's a little bit wrong and strange to play World Cup during a football season, but it's not my problem," Koeman said in today's press conference. "It is 2022 and it's a long time away. Life goes fast but not so fast that we have to think about it."

One journalist said to Koeman that he could be Dutch manager by then, to which the coach replied: "Maybe. Or maybe I'll be English manager."

Roy Hodgson has been England boss since 2012.
