Kyle Walker has hailed a "whirlwind" two years after he was named man of the match during England's 1-0 win over Sweden at Wembley last night.

The Tottenham right-back, who was playing for the England Under-19 team this time two years ago, won his first start in the England shirt last night.

"It's been a whirlwind of a two years for me," Walker said. "I was in the Under-19 squad two years ago.

"I'm thankful for the opportunity I got tonight and, hopefully, I can keep going.

"It's an honour to get out on the pitch and finally show what I can do. I'm grateful and I owe a lot to my mum and dad for this."

Walker added that he hopes the performance of England's younger players will have made an impression on Fabio Capello's plans for Euro 2012.

"It's an exciting squad now. It's full of youngsters - me, Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones, Rodwell - the list goes on," Walker said.

"We're all in the manager's thoughts and I hope we're there in the summer."

Last night's victory marks the first time that England have defeated Sweden since 1968.
