David Beckham excited by youthful England squad

Former England captain David Beckham admits that he is excited by the young players included in Roy Hodgson's squad for the World Cup.

Former England captain David Beckham has admitted that he is looking forward to seeing Roy Hodgson's youthful squad in action at the World Cup.

The Three Lions boss has included the likes of Raheem Sterling, Luke Shaw and Ross Barkley in his squad for the tournament in Brazil.

Beckham, who played in three World Cups, believes that Hodgson has made the right selections.

"There are some really good young players in the England squad and the fact that Roy has gone for that group makes it exciting. We've got the experienced players in there as well," he told BBC Sport.

"I've heard people ask 'will the young players be ready for a stage like this?' They are playing in the biggest league in the world week-in, week-out, I don't see why they will go over there and be afraid."

England begin their campaign against Italy in Manaus on Saturday.
