Scott Parker: 'Playing for England was pinnacle of career'

Fulham midfielder Scott Parker insists that avoiding representing England was never an option for him.

Scott Parker has dismissed any suggestions that he avoided playing for England during his time under Harry Redknapp at Tottenham Hotspur.

Redknapp recently suggested that he was asked by a number of Spurs players to help them pull out of an England squad, but Parker insists that representing his country was always a source of pride for him.

When asked if he had ever thought about not playing for England, the Fulham midfielder told Sky Sports News: "No, never.

"I hear people say that other countries are more passionate and have more desire but whenever I've been involved in the England setup, the players have been committed.

"It's a boy's dream. I can't contemplate not wanting to play for England. It's something I will always remember, the pinnacle of my career."

England's disappointing World Cup campaign finished with a goalless draw against Costa Rica on Tuesday.
