David Moyes criticises Everton's defending after their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle at St James' Park.

Everton manager David Moyes was left to bemoan his team's defending after their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle at St James' Park this afternoon.

The loss was Everton's third in a row and Moyes has admitted that his side's defending should have been better.

They were 2-0 down against Newcastle before a Jack Rodwell header gave them hope and they could have had a penalty when Dan Gosling's shot was handled.

"It was a penalty we didn't get today but we've had a lot of that," Moyes told BBC Sport. "We were very fortunate against Fulham the other week and you earn your luck.

"Our defending in the first half wasn't good enough, especially in the opening 20 minutes. It was a terrible own goal to concede.

"We created enough chances in the first half to get something from the game. We've got to do better and win some football games."

Everton are next in action against Wolves at Goodison Park on Saturday, November 19.
