Everton manager Frank Lampard has hit back at pundits who publicly criticised new signing Dele Alli for the manner in which he was dressed and the car he drove.

Everton manager Frank Lampard has responded to pundits that have criticised new signing Dele Alli.

Several pundits have complained about the midfielder for the manner in which he was dressed when he was introduced to the fans at half-time of their recent FA Cup fixture against Brentford.

The 25-year-old also received negative feedback for the car which he chose to drive into the training ground, but he has been publicly backed by the new Everton manager.

"I have a lot of respect for everyone who has spoken, ex-players who I admire in Ally McCoist, Alan Brazil, Glenn Hoddle. I would never go against their word," Lampard told the press.

"But when you are working closely with players and working with Dele, I don't care what car he drives, what clothes he wears, as long as I get a lad that comes to training every day, wants to improve every day, respects the club and respects his teammates and then produces and gives everything to produce.

"The modern-day has moved on, we all have to be aware of that and I am not hitting back at any former players' observations because everyone is allowed their own opinion but I can only deal with what is in front of me."

Alli could be in line to make his debut for the Toffees on Wednesday when they face Newcastle United in the Premier League.
