Everton boss Ronald Koeman: 'Ashley Williams fits the bill for us'

Everton manager Ronald Koeman says that new signing Ashley Williams "fits the bill" at Goodison Park following his move from Swansea City.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has claimed that new signing Ashley Williams will bring experience and leadership to the team.

The 31-year-old finalised a reported £12m move to Goodison Park from Swansea City today.

Williams, who comes in following the departure of John Stones to Manchester City, has signed a three-year contract with the Toffees.

"We wanted to bring in a strong player in the central defence position, a player who knows the Premier League and Ashley fits the bill for us very well," Koeman told the club's official website.

"He is an experienced defender and the kind of player we need in the team. He is a leader. He showed this at Swansea and he has shown it for his country and he is looking forward to his new challenge here at Everton."

Williams could make his debut in Saturday's Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur.
