Preview: Leicester City vs. Everton - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Premier League clash between Leicester City and Everton, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Leicester City welcome Everton to the King Power Stadium on Wednesday evening sitting just one point adrift of Premier League leaders Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the Toffees remain just four points adrift of their hosts after recording an impressive 1-0 victory over Chelsea at the weekend.

Match preview

When his side suffered a home defeat to Fulham at the end of November, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers would have naturally had concerns over whether his squad were beginning to falter after a hectic schedule.

Three wins in eight days have been enough to end such worries for the Foxes boss, who witnessed Leicester blow away Brighton & Hove Albion with a ruthless first-half showing at the weekend.

While the efforts of James Maddison and Jamie Vardy got the job done for Leicester, Rodgers would have been equally satisfied with a first league clean sheet since before the November international break.

Having taken advantage of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool both failing to win on Sunday, Leicester now find themselves with a chance of topping the table later this week.

Rodgers will naturally insist that it is too early in the season to be placing attention on such matters, but becoming the new leaders after the Europa League group stages would be some achievement for this squad.

Although Everton were the early pacesetters during the opening weeks of the season, Carlo Ancelotti's side soon wilted once other teams had gotten up to speed.

However, the Toffees are now back on track, their 1-0 triumph at home to Chelsea on Saturday evening improving their recent return to seven points from four matches.

Despite victory coming courtesy of a Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty, keeping out an in-form Blues outfit will only have encouraged Ancelotti ahead of another tough test.

While Everton now sit just three points off the Champions League positions, the same margin separates the Merseyside team and 13th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Team News

With the extra day of recovery, Ancelotti could decide to name the same starting XI from the meeting with Chelsea.

Even if Seamus Coleman and James Rodriguez are fit enough to return to the squad, they may have to be content with a place on the substitutes' bench.

Rodgers may be against handing Wilfred Ndidi a third start in less than a week, which could lead to a recall for Nampalys Mendy.

Harvey Barnes is also in line to come back into the team as a replacement for Ayoze Perez.

Leicester City possible starting lineup:
Schmeichel; Fofana, Evans, Fuchs; Albrighton, Mendy, Tielemans, Justin; Maddison, Barnes; Vardy

Everton possible starting lineup:
Pickford; Holgate, Mina, Keane, Godfrey; Doucoure, Allan, Sigurdsson; Iwobi, Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison

We say: Leicester City 2-1 Everton

While few would have given Everton much of a chance a few weeks ago, it is a different story after the Toffees got the better of Chelsea. Nevertheless, Leicester have seemingly rediscovered their groove at both ends of the pitch, and we are backing the Foxes to prevail in a competitive match.
