Everton are reportedly giving consideration to trying to appoint Marcelo Bielsa as a replacement for Frank Lampard.

Everton are reportedly open to appointing Marcelo Bielsa as a replacement for current manager Frank Lampard.

The Toffees have endured an inconsistent campaign in the Premier League, mixing winless streaks and dismal performances with credible results.

However, despite putting together a seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions earlier in the season, the Merseyside outfit have lost six of their last eight games.

Everton's two most confidence-sapping defeats came last week, losing 4-1 and 3-0 at Bournemouth in EFL Cup and top-flight fixtures at the Vitality Stadium which were only separated by four days.

Having kept Everton in the Premier League last season and making progress during 2022-23, Lampard has some credit in the bank with the club's hierarchy and supporters.

Nevertheless, according to Football Insider, conversations have been held behind the scenes regarding a change of manager during the break for the World Cup.

The report claims that discussions have been held regarding Lampard's future since the latest setback on the South coast, one which was followed by barely-controllable anger in the away end at the full-time whistle.

With the mood behind the scenes at Goodison Park becoming increasingly lower, thought is seemingly being given to making an approach for Bielsa.

The veteran Argentine has been out of work since being sacked as Leeds United in February, but his reputation remains intact having helped the Lilywhites become established in the Premier League after their prolonged stint in the EFL.

The 67-year-old has a Championship title to his name, as well as memorable stints in charge of Argentina and Athletic Bilbao respectively.

Bielsa has recently been linked with Bournemouth, who had won just once in eight matches before their double success over Everton.

As it stands, it is unclear whether caretaker boss Gary O'Neil will now be offered the position on a full-time basis having taken his record to four wins, four draws and four defeats from 12 matches in charge.

Nevertheless, despite the Premier League not resuming until Boxing Day, both Everton and the Cherries may have to give serious thought to making a concrete decision sooner rather than later in order to avoid missing out on a potential managerial candidate.

Bournemouth sit in 14th position in the Premier League table, three points above the relegation zone, while Everton are 17th and just one point ahead of the bottom three.
