Everton confirm Luke Garbutt extension

Everton full-back Luke Garbutt ends the speculation surrounding his future by signing a new five-year contract.

Everton defender Luke Garbutt has committed his future to the club by signing a new five-year contract.

A highly-rated product of the Everton youth academy, Garbutt has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park due to the presence of England international Leighton Baines, who is likely to remain Roberto Martinez's first-choice left-back when he fully recovers from an ankle injury.

However, Garbutt has ended the speculation surrounding his future after reports had suggested that he could walk away from the club with his previous deal expiring on Wednesday.

"It's an honour to commit my long-term future to Everton," the 22-year-old told the club's website. "Over the years, I have grown to have an affinity with the club and I feel a sense of belonging here.

"Under the manager, the future looks bright and positive and I want to be a part of that. It is a great club to be a part of and the staff and supporters have been great with me from day one.

"Last season was great for me in continuing my development, my personal highlight being the Europa League adventure as I gained a lot of experience in those games playing against top quality opposition."

Garbutt made 10 appearances in all competitions last season.
