Per Mertesacker shrugs off Switzerland defeat

Per Mertesacker believes that Germany will be in good shape for the start of Euro 2012 despite a heavy defeat to Switzerland.

Per Mertesacker has claimed that Germany are still confident of winning Euro 2012 despite suffering a heavy defeat to Switzerland on Saturday evening.

Joachim Low's side were beaten 5-3 in Basel mainly due to a much-criticised defensive display from the Germans but Mertesacker expects his teammates to recover in time to perform well at the European Championship.

The Arsenal defender told Sky Sports News: "Yesterday was very disappointing for us but we're looking forward to the tournament.

"It's in two weeks and we'll be in good shape I think.

"Therefore we are very confident and hopefully we can do a good job."

Germany face Portugal, Denmark and Holland in their group, which is regarded as the tournament's toughest group.
