Preview: Getafe vs. Real Sociedad - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's La Liga clash between Getafe and Real Sociedad, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Getafe will attempt to claim their first win of the season when they welcome Real Sociedad to the Coliseum for Sunday's La Liga contest.

Meanwhile, La Real will be looking to produce a positive response after suffering a disappointing defeat in their midweek clash with Alaves.

Getafe experienced a steady start to the new season despite having to contend with a small squad following a number of departures over the summer.

They have also had to play their first two matches without a natural centre-forward, with summer signing Christantus Uche forced to move from his natural midfield position to operate as a striker.

Uche, who was playing in the Spanish third tier last season, has already made a positive impact for Jose Bordalas's side, scoring an equaliser in the opening game against Athletic Bilbao to clinch a hard-fought point for his new team.

The Azulones added another point to their tally last weekend, playing out a goalless home draw against fellow Madrid-based side Rayo Vallecano.

Unlike the majority of teams, Getafe were not in action in midweek because their fixture with Real Betis was postponed due to the latter's involvement in Europa Conference League qualifying, and Sunday's hosts will hope that extra rest can aid their bid to end a seven-game winless run in La Liga.

Real Sociedad will be underwhelmed with their start to the new season, having won one and lost two of their first three La Liga matches.

They fell to a narrow home defeat in their league opener against Rayo Vallecano, before they recorded a 1-0 away win over newly-promoted Espanyol thanks to a late Take Kubo strike.

Instead of building upon that victory, Real Sociedad suffered another home defeat in Wednesday's clash against Alaves, with La Real forced to play over an hour with 10 men following Mikel Oyarzabal's straight red card.

Real Sociedad still managed to take the lead through Brais Mendez, but the numerical difference ultimately told as Asier Villalibre and Toni Martinez grabbed a goal apiece to snatch all three points for Alaves.

As a result of their disappointing start, Real Sociedad will head into the weekend in 13th position, and they will be looking to move up the table by claiming their first away win over Getafe since recording a 1-0 victory in February 2021.

Team News

Getafe will have to assess forward Borja Mayoral, who has missed the first two matches with a knee injury that he sustained last season.

Despite picking up an injury on matchday one, Mauro Arambarri was fit enough to feature as a late substitute against Rayo Vallecano, and he is now in contention to start Sunday's contest.

Uruguayan striker Alvaro Rodriguez is expected to feature in the matchday squad after he recently completed a loan move from Real Madrid.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon Aritz Elustondo and Arsen Zakharyan, while Alvaro Odriozola is a doubt due to an ankle issue.

Real Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil will have to cope without one of his key players, with Oyarzabal set to serve a one-match ban following his red card in midweek.

In positive news, Ander Barrenetxea could be passed fit to feature in the matchday squad after missing the last two matches through injury.

Benat Turrientes dropped down to the bench on Wednesday, but the midfielder could be recalled to feature in the Real Sociedad midfield.

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Iglesias, Djene, Alderete, Rico; Arambarri, Aberdin, Milla; Perez, Sola, Uche

Real Sociedad possible starting lineup:
Remiro; Traore, Zubeldia, Pacheco, Lopez; Mendez, Zubimendi, Turrientes, Gomez; Kubo, Becker

We say: Getafe 1-1 Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad will be determined to return to winning ways on Sunday, but they will be aware that they have failed to win any of their last three away games against Getafe, and we think that they will ultimately be held to a point in their final match before the international break.
