Former Liverpool midfielder and ex-Chelsea star Frank Lampard are linked with the vacant managerial post at Ipswich Town.

Ipswich Town have reportedly earmarked former England internationals Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard as potential candidates to replace Mick McCarthy as manager.

According to Sky Sports News, the duo have been sounded out for the role but an appointment is not expected to be made for at least a month.

The Tractor Boys are said to have begun the process of searching for McCarthy's successor but will not make a final decision until the middle of May at the earliest.

Caretaker manager Bryan Klug will reportedly remain in charge at Portman Road until the end of the season while owner Marcus Evans mulls over full-time candidates.

McCarthy left Ipswich in midtable in the Championship, with the club occupying 12th place on 56 points.
