Leeds United announce David Hockaday dismissal

Leeds United announce that manager David Hockaday's contract has been terminated.

Leeds United have announced the dismissal of manager David Hockaday after just six games in charge.

The 56-year-old had endured a tough start to life as Leeds boss, with the club sitting 21st in the Championship table after three defeats in their opening four matches.

Wednesday's Capital One Cup defeat to League One's Bradford City appears to have been the final straw, with owner Massimo Cellino admitting that the decision should have come after Saturday's 4-1 loss to Watford.

Cellino said via the club's official Twitter account: "I'd like to thank David for his efforts over the last two and a half months.

"But the results since the start of the season have meant we needed to act and make this decision.

"After the defeat at Bradford I realised that my decision to keep David at the club following the defeat at Watford was wrong"

Hockaday managed just two victories as Leeds boss - a 2-1 win over Accrington Stanley in the first round of the League Cup on August 12 and a 1-0 triumph over Millwall four days later.

Neil Redfearn has since been granted an interim role as manager until a permanent successor is named, the club has confirmed.

Junior Lewis, who arrived at United with Hockaday back in June, will also leave his post at Elland Road.
