Steve Evans looking to strengthen Leeds United squad

Steve Evans admits that he has already made "one or two calls" in an attempt to bring some fresh faces to Leeds United on loan.

Leeds United boss Steve Evans has revealed that he intends to delve into the loan market in order to strengthen his playing squad.

The Scotsman was appointed as the Whites' new head coach just four days ago, but he already has new recruits in his sights.

"It's been full on, as you can imagine," he told reporters ahead of this weekend's meeting with Bolton Wanderers. "I've not had a lot of time to plan, it's been a whirlwind.

"But I think we need to do something now. There's one or two bits I'd like to do. One or two phone calls have gone in - we need to do something."

Evans admitted upon his arrival that the only way he will survive the axe is to simply win games, having seen controversial chairman Massimo Cellino replace five managers in the space of 18 months.

Regardless of the pressure to succeed in the second tier, the former Rotherham United chief believes that he can guide Leeds to better things during his time at Elland Road.

"I want to be here for years," he said. "I want to be the guy that takes them to the Premier League. I think a lot of players here are good enough for the division but we have conceded too many goals."

Leeds can potentially climb into mid-table with victory over Bolton on Saturday afternoon.
