Leeds United confirm Steve Evans appointment as club's new head coach

Leeds United announce that Steve Evans has been appointed as the club's new head coach following the sacking of Uwe Rosler.

Leeds United have announced that Steve Evans has been appointed as the club's new head coach.

The Whites sacked manager Uwe Rosler earlier today after they lost their third Championship match on the spin with a 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Leeds have also been rocked by the news that president Massimo Cellino has been disqualified by the Football League in regards to being found guilty of tax offence in Sardinia.

However, the club have managed to secure the appointment of Evans, who parted company with Rotherham United earlier in the season following their poor start to the campaign.

Evans has revealed that he prepared for the challenge of managing the club after penning a rolling contract until June 30, and will be assisted by former Swansea City midfielder Paul Raynor at Elland Road.

He told the club's official website: "I'm honoured and proud, but the supporters just want to see what happens on the pitch. The first thing we need to do is win some points and win some football matches. We've got two tough games in the next six days.

"I know it's seven months since we won at home and that is something we need to get off our back. But, more importantly, we've now got two away games and that is important in isolation. The first thing that matters is at Fulham. All I can ask the Leeds United supporters to do is to give me the benefit of the doubt.

"Perhaps I wouldn't be the chosen manager for many Leeds United fans - I had butterflies in my stomach driving into Thorp Arch this morning. I can understand why they may think that, but the only thing that matters to me is what happens on the grass. As I proved at Rotherham and as I proved at Crawley, if I win football matches then people will embrace me. It's always about winning football matches."

Leeds are currently 18th in the Championship ahead of their clash against Fulham on Wednesday.
