Jamie Vardy: 'Points for Leicester City come first over Premier League record'

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy says that his side's success has to come first rather than him breaking the Premier League for scoring in successive matches.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has insisted that he only wants to break the Premier League record for scoring in successive matches if it results in a victory for the Foxes.

The 28-year-old can break Ruud van Nistelrooy's record by netting in his 11th match on the spin in the Premier League when his side play Manchester United at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Vardy is adamant that, although he appreciates the personal plaudits, he is only focused on continuing his side's impressive season.

He told Sky Sports News: "I did not really expect it, but I did not set myself any targets either. I just wanted to make sure I improved on last year, and I've managed to do that. To get the 10 in a row is brilliant, but the main thing is the points for Leicester.

I pinch myself every day anyway. Everyone knows the road I have had in the game, and how I have managed to get myself to where I am today. Obviously it has been tough, but it is nice to be among those names.

"It would be unbelievable [to break the record], but I would only want to get another if we got the three points."

Vardy leads the Premier League scoring charts this season with 13 goals in 13 matches.
