Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic set for Middlesbrough move?

Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic could be set for a loan move to Championship club Middlesbrough, according to a report.

Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic could be set for a loan move to Championship club Middlesbrough, according to a report.

The Croat joined the Foxes from Dinamo Zagreb for £13m in 2018 but he is yet to feature in the Premier League for the club and he spent last season on loan at Celtic, scoring two goals in 28 appearances across all competitions.

According to the Daily Mail, Boro are the favourites to sign the defender but any move is dependent on Brendan Rodgers securing another centre-back to compete with Caglar Soyuncu, Jonny Evans and Wes Morgan for starting places.

In addition to the interest from Teesside, Derby County and Bristol City have also been linked with Benkovic, while a return to Celtic is also believed to be a feint possibility.

Jonathan Woodgate has overseen a mini-revival of late at Middlesbrough, and the former England defender is keen to add quality to his side as they look to kick on in the final 17 games of the season.
