Andrew Robertson: 'Underdog tag could benefit Liverpool against Real Madrid'

Full-back Andrew Robertson believes that Liverpool's underdog tag could work in their favour when they meet Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 26.

Andrew Robertson has claimed that Liverpool's underdog tag could work in their favour when they meet Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

The Reds saw off Roma in the semi-finals of the competition, losing 4-2 in the second leg on Wednesday night but holding on for a 7-6 aggregate victory.

Real, meanwhile, saw off Bayern Munich in their last-four tie a day earlier to reach their third final in a row and fourth in five years.

Although Zinedine Zidane's side will likely be deemed the favourites for their 13th trophy in the competition, Robertson is hopeful that less pressure on Liverpool could be a good thing.

"What a thing to be involved in," the former Hull City full-back told BT Sport. "Credit to all the lads, we've come through every challenge we've been set. We'll have a great day in Kiev whatever the result.

"First and foremost, you need to remember you're defending the lead and if you do you're in the final. They threw everything at us and we've done brilliant.

"Last season we were fighting for our lives at Hull, now I feel like I'm at home. I'll certainly enjoy Kiev.

"We'll enjoy this tonight and think about that game another day. We'll go in as underdogs but sometimes that can be a good thing."

Liverpool face Chelsea on Sunday before wrapping up the Premier League season at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, while the Champions League final takes place on May 26.
