Real Madrid confirm that right-back Dani Carvajal has undergone a season-ending knee operation.

Real Madrid have confirmed that Dani Carvajal has undergone a season-ending knee operation.

The Spain international suffered a severe injury in the latter stages of his side's 2-0 win over Villarreal last weekend, and it was later confirmed that he had torn his ACL, which will keep him on the sidelines for a significant amount of time.

Now that the swelling has subsided, Carvajal has been able to undergo surgery, with Real Madrid confirming that the right-back's recovery process will begin "in the coming days".

"Our player Dani Carvajal has undergone successful surgery today for a torn anterior cruciate ligament and posteroexternal instability in his right knee, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services," read a club statement.

"Carvajal will begin his recovery process in the coming days."

Providing that the recovery process goes as planned, there is a chance that Carvajal could be back for the start of the 2025-26 campaign, and he has had his contract with the club extended until the end of next season.

Carvajal has again been a vital player for Real Madrid this season, making 11 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing one assist in the process.

There had been some speculation surrounding his future over the summer, but shortly after his injury blow was confirmed, Real Madrid announced that he had signed a new contract until June 2026.

In his absence, it is likely that Lucas Vazquez will feature at right-back, with Eder Militao also capable of filling in.

Real Madrid continue to be linked with a number of right-backs, including Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Tottenham Hotspur's Pedro Porro is also said to be on their radar ahead of the January transfer window.
