Everton manager Sam Allardyce claims that he will give former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher "a lesson in coaching" following his comments on the Merseyside derby.

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has claimed that he will give former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher "a lesson in coaching" following his comments during the Merseyside derby.

Carragher was a pundit on Sky Sports' coverage of the 1-1 draw at Anfield, where he said at half time that Everton would be "in Stanley Park" if they dropped any deeper.

Reds winger Mohamed Salah had opened the scoring just before the interval, but Wayne Rooney netted his first Merseyside derby goal in the second half to level the scores.

"Jamie, if you're listening to this. You get forced back by two things," Allardyce told The Mirror. "One is the talent of the opposition, and two the failure of your players to play out correctly when they've got possession.

"So, next time I see Jamie I will give him a lesson in coaching so he can understand it better next time he's commentating."

Liverpool were frustrated at home after failing to put away a number of chances, before Dejan Lovren pushed Dominic Calvert-Lewin to gift the Toffees a penalty.
