Everton's Ramiro Funes Mori apologises to Divock Origi for horror challenge

Ramiro Funes Mori says sorry to Liverpool hitman Divock Origi following his horror challenge in the Merseyside derby at Anfield.

Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori has apologised to Liverpool's Divock Origi for the horror tackle which saw the young striker leave the field on a stretcher last night.

The Reds' 4-0 demolition of their neighbours at Anfield was somewhat marred by Origi's untimely exit on 50 minutes, with Funes Mori given a straight red card.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp revealed afterwards that the Belgian hitman - who opened the scoring - had not suffered a broken ankle, though the 21-year-old is on crutches.

"I very much regret what happened yesterday. It was never my intention to harm a rival nor my colleagues [by] leaving the field," Funes Mori told Everton's official website.

"And regarding Divock Origi, I fervently hope it's nothing serious and know that was never my intention to hurt [him]. I ask my apologies for what happened."

Mamadou Sakho added a second shortly before half time, while Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho completed the scoring in a one-sided Merseyside derby last night.
