Steven Gerrard hails Liverpool's spirit

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard hails the close-knit nature of the squad following their 3-0 win against Manchester United on Sunday.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes that the close-knit nature of the Reds' squad has been a big factor behind their Premier League title push this season.

The Reds beat Manchester United 3-0 on Sunday at Old Trafford to close the gap on leaders Chelsea to four points.

Gerrard, who scored two penalties in the victory against United, is quoted as saying on Sky Sports News: "When you're working together and trying to achieve things together it's important you stick together and you laugh and enjoy it as you go along.

"But you can only get that togetherness and happiness when you do that dirty work, you work hard for each other and you go that extra mile and that is what these players are doing for each other.

"We have had our difficult times and at the moment we need to enjoy the way we are playing and try to continue it and try to bring success because that is how eventually we will be judged. The manager (Brendan Rodgers) is very keen on team spirit, togetherness."

The Reds travel to Cardiff City on Saturday.
