Steven Gerrard says that Liverpool have lacked a cutting edge against the teams above them in the Premier League.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has cited their weakness this season as a lack of cutting edge against teams above them in the Premier League.

The Reds endured a frustrating goalless draw against Merseyside rivals Everton on Sunday that leaves them seventh in the table.

However, the England skipper admits that he is content with a point against the Toffees.

"We all wanted [a goal] at the end, mainly for this fella [Jamie Carragher] playing in his last derby," Gerrard told Sky Sports News.

"Everton have improved a lot. They've had a good season and are difficult to beat and that sums our season up in a way.

"We played well but lacked the cutting edge against the sides above us. We'll take a point but we're slightly disappointed it wasn't three."

Liverpool travel to Fulham in their next match on Sunday.
