Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton admits that his side conceded a "poor goal" to lose to Liverpool, but insists that he was pleased with their response.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has praised his side's reaction to falling behind against Liverpool this afternoon, but admitted that it was a "poor goal" to concede.

The Seagulls fell to a gutsy defeat at Anfield courtesy of Mohamed Salah's 23rd-minute strike, which came after Yves Bissouma had been caught in possession deep inside his own half.

Brighton avoided any further damage and could have nicked a point late on when Pascal Gross saw his header saved by Alisson Becker, but Hughton was still pleased with his side's display despite coming away empty-handed.

"We conceded a very poor goal and you have to make sure you stick in the game," he told reporters in his post-match press conference.

"At that stage you can crumble a little bit, particularly here with the quality they've got, but we stuck in there.

"When you concede a goal like that, the disappointment can spread through the team and that can show, but I don't think it showed. We raised our game again."

Brighton will now turn their attention to an EFL Cup clash at home to Southampton on Tuesday night.
