Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has denied claims that he was involved in a post-match bust-up with captain Jordan Henderson following Sunday's stalemate with Manchester United.

Henderson was replaced by Xherdan Shaqiri in the 72nd minute of the goalless draw at Old Trafford and did not shake hands with his manager before making his way towards the bench.

A report in The Sun on Tuesday claimed that the England international was the subject of Klopp's fury in the dressing room because of his reluctance to shake hands.

Klopp has labelled the report as "bullshit", however, as Henderson was not even present in the immediate aftermath of the game.

"I could have shouted, but Hendo wasn't even there. He was being drug tested," he told reporters. "It's bullshit. Nothing happened after the game, we were completely fine.

"We spoke about the game and the opportunity we had, things we did, and then we drove home. In terms of the situation [when he left the field], it was a pure misunderstanding. That's clear. For me, when a player leaves the pitch, it's clear, we shake hands.

"But I'm in the situation as well. I didn't say you have to wait for me until I look at you again as I was with [Xherdan] Shaqiri talking and then Hendo left. He was saying thank you to the crowd. I thought he didn't [go to shake hands] and that's why I turned and told him to [come back and shake my hand].

"But everyone else told me, No, no, no, he wanted to shake your hand but you were not ready'. That's how a misunderstanding works. That's all. It was nothing."

Next up for Klopp's side, who lead the Premier League by a point, is a home meeting with Watford on Wednesday night.
