Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has defended his U-turn regarding the future of goalkeeper Loris Karius by stating that "things in football change".

The German custodian found himself under criticism this summer following his mistakes in the Champions League final against Real Madrid as well as some error-strewn displays in pre-season.

Klopp initially backed Karius even as Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker completed his move from Roma to Anfield, but the former Mainz 05 man now looks set to complete a loan move to Besiktas.

"There's nothing new about Loris," Klopp told reporters ahead of the Premier League meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion. "If it happens that's how it goes in football, these things can happen.

"As a manager you don't usually need much time between one game and another to get the sack, that's how things can change. Things in football change."

Karius made 33 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions last season.
