Liverpool will reportedly not face any punishment for the alleged 'tapping-up' of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool will reportedly not face any sanctions from the football authorities after being accused of 'tapping up' Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

The south coast club called for an investigation by the Premier League after stories emerged that Van Dijk wanted to join the Reds to play under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool swiftly released a public apology for their conduct and withdrew interest in the centre-back, who is believed to be rated at around £70m by the Saints.

According to The Telegraph, Southampton have not formally cancelled their complaint, but they were satisfied with Liverpool's statement, and as a result of the matter being resolved between the two parties, the Premier League is unlikely to take any action against the Merseyside outfit.

Van Dijk's future at St Mary's remains uncertain, with reports now claiming that Chelsea are leading the chase for the Dutchman's signature.
