Jose Mourinho: 'Luis Suarez not worthy of Player of the Year'

Jose Mourinho says that Edin Dzeko and not Luis Suarez is worthy of being crowned Player of the Year.

Jose Mourinho believes that Luis Suarez does not deserve his two Player of the Year awards and says that Manchester City's Edin Dzeko is more worthy of those accolades.

The Uruguayan was crowned PFA Footballer of the Year a fortnight ago and will be recognised by the Football Writers' Association at a gala dinner next week, but Mourinho was quick to state the case for the Bosnian striker as an alternative winner.

He told The Mirror: "He's not just a goalscorer. He assists, he plays, he behaves, he's fair, he doesn't dive, doesn't try to put opponents in the stands with accumulation of cards. I'd choose Dzeko."

"My player of the year would be always from the champions so if that is Manchester City, I would choose Dzeko."

Incidentally, Mourinho said that if Liverpool were to be crowned Premier League champions, he believes that Reds captain Steven Gerrard would be the right choice for such awards.
