Brendan Rodgers looking to emulate past managers

New Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers hopes that one day his achievements will allow him to walk alongside the likes of Shankly, Paisley and Dalglish as one of the club's greatest managers.

New Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has expressed his desire to emulate the club's previous managers.

Rodgers is aware of the history that the illustrious club has, and knows that many of the traditions that the Reds hold dear have been shaped by the club's managers.

The former Swansea boss acknowledges that he will never be able to replace the likes of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and his predecessor Kenny Dalglish, but hopes that one day his achievements at the club will mean that he can walk alongside them.

"I will never replace Kenny Dalglish, that is the reality. I have so much respect for him. This is a guy who was voted the best player in the history of the club, a legend of a manager here and a fantastic man. There is not a race for me. It's a race I am sure I would lose," said Rodgers.

"I can only be Brendan Rodgers and do the very best I can for the football club. What I want to do, is prove my worth, honesty and commitment to Liverpool. History judges you as the manager, that is the reality. I hope my history here will allow me to walk beside many of the great managers."

Rodgers was unveiled as the new Liverpool boss this morning, and has been promised money to spend in the summer transfer window.
