Brendan Rodgers: 'Top spot has given Liverpool hunger'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that there is plenty more to come from his side and vows they will fight to keep top spot in the Premier League.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has declared that his side will give everything to maintain their impressive start in the Premier League this season.

The Reds sit top of the table after four games, with three successive wins followed up by a 2-2 draw at Swansea City on Monday night.

Rodgers believes that his side are now starting to match performances with consistency in results, while insisting that there is still room for improvement at Anfield.

He told The Mirror: "You'd rather be there than be at the bottom. What it does is that the more you are up there, the more aggression and will and desire you have to stay there.

"It's only four games in, but we've had four tough games and we have only lost once in the last 16 games, so we are getting a level of consistency and that was the biggest thing for me.

"Coming here, there was no consistency in the performance and now we are just churning out wins and if we can't win we are drawing games with resilient performances like in the last 25 minutes at Swansea. I believe we will get better and more fluent as the season goes on so we are happy to be there and it gives us a fight to stay there."

Southampton are next up for Liverpool this weekend, as the Merseysiders bid for a third successive home win in the top flight.
