Tom Werner talks up Liverpool's transfer policy

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner believes that Fenway Sports Group's policy of signing young players is beginning to bear fruit at Anfield.

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner believes that Fenway Sports Group's policy of signing young players is beginning to bear fruit at Anfield.

FSG's strategy is to sign younger players for smaller fees and develop them over a number of years, and Werner thinks that Brendan Rodgers's side is flourishing because of the policy.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "I'm not going to say that there aren't exceptions to the rule but we feel that it is valuable to have a team that can coalesce for the long term.

"Every individual signing can be debated. But we are building a team that we think is only going to get stronger.

"And as you know we are going to add an exceptional striker we hope to that mix next year in Divock Origi. So I think that we have a nucleus of a team that will continue to be excellent."

FSG bought the Reds in October 2010.
