Liverpool reportedly receive fresh hope in their bid to sign England international Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.

Liverpool have reportedly been 'encouraged' to step up their efforts to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

The attacker has established himself as a key figure in the Newcastle side following his arrival from Everton in January 2023.

Last season, Gordon scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in 48 competitive appearances to finish the campaign with the second-most goal contributions in the Newcastle squad.

Those performances secured Gordon a place in England's Euro 2024 squad and caught the attention of Premier League giants Liverpool.

Last month, Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for Gordon as Newcastle considered a sale to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules for the 2023-24 season.

Liverpool given renewed belief in Gordon pursuit

As a result, the Magpies were looking to generate funds to improve their position before June 30, leading to negotiations with Liverpool over a potential transfer.

However, the proposed move failed to come to fruition, with the Reds unwilling to agree to Newcastle's demand to include Jarrell Quansah as part of a swap deal.

As thing stands, Gordon looks set to remain at St James' Park, but according to journalist Kevin Palmer, Liverpool have been given renewed belief in their pursuit of the England international.

The report claims that the Liverpool hierarchy have been given encouragement that Gordon is keen to complete the move to Anfield.

Liverpool are now weighing up whether to submit a fresh proposal which could see them use players as makeweights in a potential deal.

Newcastle's asking price could be an issue

The former Everton man is said to have idolised Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, which is seemingly one of the reasons why he is open to joining a the Reds this summer.

While Gordon is open to the move, Liverpool may still find it difficult to prise the 23-year-old away from St James' Park this summer.

The two clubs are some way apart in Gordon's valuation, with Newcastle reluctant to part ways with the forward, especially as the 2023-24 PSR deadline has now passed.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has insisted that Gordon is an "integral part" of the squad and is confident that he will remain with the club for the 2024-25 season.
