Steven Gerrard warns Raheem Sterling against leaving Liverpool

Steven Gerrard warns Raheem Sterling that he could make a mistake by leaving Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has warned Raheem Sterling that the youngster will not receive the same "love and attention" at any other club.

The 20-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield after he rejected a new contract worth £100,000 a week.

The England international, who has been linked to Real Madrid, Manchester City and Arsenal, has no plans to reopen negotiations until the end of the season in two games' time, which has sparked rumours of a possible exit.

From Gerrard's point of view, the midfielder believes that Liverpool is the best place for Sterling to develop, and warns the youngster against trying to have it all "too soon".

"My advice to Raheem is he needs a manager who is going to play him, to coach him, to believe in him," Gerrard said in this afternoon's press conference. "I think there is no-one better for him than Brendan Rodgers.

"For me, I am always going to be biased towards this club. I think he should sign a new deal. Brendan is a fantastic man manager, he puts a lot of time and effort into every player in the squad.

"The danger for younger players is they want it all too soon and chase it, and become just one of a number at another club. They could go to another club and don't get that love and attention they get here. It would be best for him here."

Meanwhile, Gerrard is preparing for his final home game at Anfield this weekend before he leaves for MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy in July.
