Liverpool 'baulk at Crystal Palace's clauses in Christian Benteke offer'

Liverpool reportedly turned down Crystal Palace's bid for striker Christian Benteke due to the clauses offered in the deal.

Liverpool reportedly turned down Crystal Palace's bid for Christian Benteke due to the clauses proposed in the deal.

Yesterday, it emerged that the Eagles were unsuccessful in a £23m offer rising to £30m in add-ons.

Benteke cost the Reds £32.5m to buy from Aston Villa last summer, but he has failed to live up to the price tag, scoring 10 times in 42 appearances and dropping down the pecking order behind Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.

According to The Telegraph, Palace proposed clauses that would include paying £2.5m if the team qualified for the Champions League with Benteke scoring 20 goals and featuring in 70% of the matches that season.

The report has claimed that additional clauses relating to Palace's ability to remain in the Premier League were also included in the deal.
