Braga defender David Carmo has reportedly been lined up by Liverpool as an alternative for Ozan Kabak in their late scramble for a new centre-back.
The Reds have been linked with numerous options throughout the January window after losing Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long-term injuries earlier in the campaign.
However, with the cut-off point for deals to go through fast closing in, the reigning Premier League champions have yet to bring in any new players.
Preston North End's Ben Davies is widely expected to finalise a switch ahead of Monday's 11pm deadline, having arrived on Merseyside to undergo a medical earlier today.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Jurgen Klopp wants one other player to help solve his central-defensive headache.
Schalke 04 ace Kabak is said to remain Klopp's primary target, with personal terms having already been agreed, but Carmo is also now on their radar.
Liverpool are rumoured to have contacted Braga on Monday morning over an initial loan deal with the option to buy, though they will hold off from finalising a deal in the hope of landing Kabak from Schalke.
