Liverpool eye Toby Alderweireld as a replacement for the retiring Jamie Carragher.

Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on a summer swoop for Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld.

The 24-year-old's contract at Ajax runs out in 2014, leading to a speculative figure of £8m being touted.

Another product of the famous Amsterdam youth setup, the centre-back has already won 23 caps for his country.

Meanwhile, the Reds are in the market for a replacement for Jamie Carragher, who is retiring at the end of the season.

According to talkSPORT, Brendan Rodgers is keen on recruiting Alderweireld to fill the void.

However, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are also believed to be interested in his services.
