Jamie Carragher says that Liverpool do not know what position they need to finish in the Premier League to earn European football next season.

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has admitted that his side are unsure of what position the club need to finish in the Premier League in order to obtain European football for next season.

The seventh-placed Reds currently sit five points behind Arsenal who are fifth, having beaten Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park on Sunday.

While some have began to talk up the Merseysiders' chances of earning European football for next season, Carragher has played down the hype.

"I don't really look too far ahead and to be honest if you asked most of the lads, they wouldn't even know what position would get us into Europe," said Carragher.

"Sometimes it is fifth spot, sometimes sixth, seventh. We just will try and carry on and win games and see where it takes us."

Liverpool host West Ham United on Sunday.
