Michael Owen: 'Borini fee too high'

Michael Owen believes that Sunderland would be paying too much for Fabio Borini at £14m.

Michael Owen has said that Sunderland are paying over the odds for Liverpool's Fabio Borini.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light and his crucial goals helped the Black Cats avoid the drop.

The Anfield club have reportedly agreed to sell the striker to Sunderland for £14m, but Owen believes that the fee is too much for the Italian.

Owen wrote on his Sportlobster blog: "I like Borini but if the £14m transfer fee that is reported to be the case is true, that seems a hefty sum."

Borini joined Liverpool from Roma in July 2012 and scored two goals for the Reds in 20 appearances.
