Southampton 'make move for Liverpool striker Danny Ings'

A report claims that Liverpool striker Danny Ings is wanted by Southampton, who are willing to pay half of the Reds' £20m valuation.

Southampton are reportedly attempting to sign Danny Ings from Liverpool, but they are only willing to pay half of the striker's asking price.

Despite the one-cap England international's injury problems, restricting him to just six Premier League starts in three seasons at Anfield, the Reds are said to be after £20m.

That is substantially more than the £6.5m splashed out to sign him from Burnley in 2015, and exactly double the amount that Southampton are prepared to pay.

According to The Sun, Saints boss Mark Hughes is an admirer and believes that the 25-year-old would be a hit on the south coast, where he started his professional career with rivals Bournemouth.

Southampton, who face competition from Crystal Palace for Ings's signature, will look to offload Sam Gallagher on loan if they can push a cut-price deal through.
