Malaga edge past Almeria

Fernando Tissone and Francisco Portillo's second-half goals prove enough for Malaga to beat Almeria 2-0 at home in La Liga.

Malaga have registered a 2-0 victory over Almeria at home in La Liga.

The hosts started the game the brighter of the two teams, with Duda, Vitorino Antunes and Sergi Darder all going close in the opening 15 minutes.

Malaga continued to have the better of the play as Almeria's first genuine chance of breaking the deadlock came past the half-hour mark when Hernan Pelleran had an effort saved from close range.

Mounir El Hamdaoui and Francisco Portillo tried their luck for the home side before the end of the first half, but in vain.

Malaga's dominance of proceedings went unabated in the second period and they were unlucky not to surge ahead on 61 minutes when El Hamdaoui's right-footed shot from close range came back off the post.

However, the hosts' pressure eventually paid off in the 68th minute when Tissone headed home Sergio Sanchez's pass from just yards out.

Portillo secured the win for Malaga in the first minute of injury time, turning in Roque Santa Cruz's cross from inside the Almeria penalty box.
