Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has admitted that he was disappointed not to be called up to the England squad for their friendly matches against Brazil and the Republic of Ireland.
The 32-year-old has been a regular in the squad for the past four years but have been overlooked by Roy Hodgson for the Three Lions' upcoming games.
Barry told The Mirror: "Ideally I'd like to be playing for my country. But the positive is that I'll get a great break and come back fit and fighting for a place in the squad.
"It's been quite frustrating because I've been playing some of the best football of my career and you don't get the call. I had that for a spell at Aston Villa too, so I'm just used to it.
"I'm not one who goes to managers and calls them to ask for a reason. Once their mind is made up, that's fine."
Barry has played 53 times for England and has scored three goals.
