Hartson: 'No pressure on Mancini'

Ex-Arsenal player John Hartson doesn't think that Roberto Mancini is under "real pressure" to win the Champions League.

Former Arsenal forward John Hartson thinks that there is no danger of Roberto Mancini's managerial role being called into question if Manchester City crash out of the Champions League.

The Premier League leaders are unlikely to reach the knockout stages of the European competition after suffering defeat to Napoli in the Group A clash on Tuesday.

"I don't think there is real pressure on Mancini to win the Champions League yet," Hartson told talkSPORT.

"I think City are still a growing club, they have come from nowhere over the last few years. For 30 or so years they've been in the doldrums and haven't won a trophy.

"Over the last couple of years City have spent an awful lot of money and I think Mancini will get the time to win the Champions League unlike Chelsea managers who were put under major pressure by [Roman] Abramovich."

Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas after losing 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen last night, which means that the outcome of Chelsea's final match against Valencia will decide the team that progresses into the final 16.
