Joey Barton criticises Fabio Capello's decision not to include Manchester City defender Micah Richards in the England squad.

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has criticised Fabio Capello's team selection for England's upcoming friendlies against Spain and Sweden.

Chelsea and England captain John Terry was called up to the Three Lions squad despite being at the centre of a race row with QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.

Youngsters Jack Rodwell and Daniel Sturridge were also awarded a place in the senior squad whereas Manchester City's Micah Richards was snubbed in favour of Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson, who has been hampered with injuries this season.

"Don't understand England Squad. No Newcastle players?? No Micah Richards?? Surely he has to be. Man City 5 points clear, Man of the Match at Old Trafford and skipper??" Barton posted on his Twitter page.

Reds striker Andy Carroll has also been left out of the squad after a mismatched start to his Premier League campaign.
