Vincent Kompany: 'Manchester derby timing is perfect'

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes that his side have the 'perfect chance' to get back to winning ways against Manchester United.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has claimed that Sunday's derby with Manchester United is the 'perfect opportunity' for his side to get their season back on track.

The Blues saw their Premier League title defence suffer a damaging setback last night thanks to a 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace.

Fourth-placed City head to Old Trafford behind their local rivals in the table, but Kompany is confident that they can get a positive result against United.

"For me, my only concern is we get back to our best form," he told The Guardian. "I've learnt from the past seasons as well that finishing a season strongly can have an impact on your next season as well.

"We have United on Sunday and a derby is a derby. It doesn't matter what place you are in the league, it's a derby. If anything, it's a good moment to go into a derby. I guess the momentum is a little bit with our neighbours at the moment but it's the perfect place for us to go and try to rectify what we've had on Monday."

City earned a narrow 1-0 win over United when they met at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season.
